German beer

If you live in or close to the Annapolis area, or if you're passing through, I suggest you visit the Old Stein Inn in Edgewater. They've been around as long as I have (26 years) and feature the best authentic German cuisine in the area, and actually some of the best I've ever had. There are at least 25 German beers available in bottles and a half dozen or more on draft. Last time I went I had what has become my go-to beer, Paulaner Salvator Dopple Bock. In my opinion, this beer goes with eveything on the menu at Old Stein. The inside of the restaurant is warm and cozy, with stone and dark wood, a fireplace or two, and a small bar area. Outside is the biergarten where you can eat, drink, am listen to some live authentic German music (weather permitting of course, and don't worry, it's not loud). Be prepared to wait 30 minutes or more in a weekend. They don't take reservations and they're always packed on weekends. If you have a large party they will try to accomodate you if you call an hour or so before arrival.
The munster & crab soup is to die for and has won awards. For the main course I recommend the jägerschnitzel or the pork shank, or if you appetite is marginally smaller, get one of the 'wursts (brat-, bauern-, knock-, or weiss-). You can combine any 2 you want. The red cabbage is arguably the best side dish of any entree anywhere, like, in the world. Look out french fries!

Frittata-ish and Pumpkin Muffins with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting

I have been working my butt off till 7/730pm 6 days a week. I finally took a few hours off and left work at 4:30pm. This gave me the chance to relax enough to think about dinner, AND DESSERT!

Tonight I made a frittata. I was going to make a quiche, but then I remembered that I wanted to go to whole foods for groceries. I don't make crust, and I wont buy Whole Food's crust because its the healthy kind without butter or lard... I dont even want to try it. So instead of a true crust, I used sliced potatoes.

My frittata had ham, mushrooms, shallots, gruyere, and asparagus. Chris took some photos for me.

Then I made Pumpkin Muffins with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting, I found the recipe at Honey & Jam,

I NEVER use flour in the kitchen, I hate doing all the dishes so I just don't bake, so... this is the first baking recipe I have ever made that came out as expected. This muffins were easy and awesome. I hope they last until my party saturday. mmmm, probably won't. YAY I can bake!
