Brew and Burn Cocktail Squeelers

These are the perfect snack for your Superbowl Sunday. I'll avoid any tasteless Roethlisberger weener jokes and move straight to the recipe.

2 packages of smoked cocktail sausages
1/4 cup of your favorite hot sauce
1/2 tbsp malt vinegar
1 tbsp butter
1/2 head of garlic cloves, smashed
Light dusting of garlic powder
A few shakes of red pepper flakes
Approximately 1/2 bottle of beer

Step 1: Crack open your favorite bottle of beer and start drinking.

Step 2:
Throw all of the sausages into a pan over medium heat, be sure to include all the juices from the packaging. Add butter to the pan and let it melt away. Allow the sausages to sit and brown for a minute or so, while you separate and smash the cloves of garlic. Add garlic, hot sauce, and vinegar, stir. Add garlic powder and red pepper flakes. Allow the sausages to brown on all sides.

Step 3:
A delicious crust will have formed on the bottom of your pan by now, and that stuff is hard to clean off. So the best option is to "deglaze" it all off with some liquid.

And what is this dish missing?


Oh, I beg to differ, it needs beer!

Pour in the other half of the bottle of  beer you've been chugging and start to scrape the bottom of the pan with a soft plastic spatula or a spoon to help that beer pull all the delicious browned bits off the pan. Let the whole thing simmer while you grab another cold one. The beer will reduce down so there is maybe 4tbsp of liquid in the pan.

Step 4:
Serve with nuts and beer and football.

bonjour, mon nouvel ami! yay! so glad to see someone else is in the superbowl spirit! i'm making a couple of little snacks, myself. great idea about the beer addition. i love the qualities that beer adds to food.

also, loved the post including the bonne bouche down yonder a little farther, there! one of my favourites. sigh, beautiful photographs.
